Selene Frosini

Selene Frosini began collaborating in 2007 with Arts Studio “Cave Michelangelo” and in the last years had the opportunity to attend, as marble trader, to the realization of works for international artists.
“They are beautiful for what they are” This is the first comment Selene gave me when I first asked her how she had the idea of using small blocks of marble to create the works for the exhibition at Teké Gallery. At first it may seem a trivial comment, but after i gave a deep look at the works for the exhibition, in truth, I found it very profound.

Different materials, Belgium Black, Pink Portugal, Mexico Black, Statuario, Carrara Ordinario, all carved by the artist with the same poetry. The blocks, in their volume, remain unchanged but Selene digs within them creating galleries that gently pass through the stone. A research that gives us the sculptures finely polished on the outside but rough and satin inside.

Still. Motionless. Like a statue. Deep silence and calm. Again, again and again. Like water always flowing on the same point digs, carves, smoothes, deforms the rock to break through, so the artist’s hand finds in small blocks of marble a world that proliferates and multiplies within the stone, crossing, unfolding, bringing to light a new beauty.
“Still” in English may have several meanings, it can mean “yet” or “not moving” and from the start it seemed the most suitable word to describe this exhibition.
Still it is also a Joy Division’s album, and of this group, in particular a cover, reminds me of the work of this young artist; “Unknown Pleasures”, where on a black background the representation of a series of electromagnetic pulses produced by a Pulsar Star intertwine and overlap, creating a flutter in the space that I have always found hypnotic, sensual, from the first time i saw it, just as these sculptures.

As the discovery of pulsars brought the discovery of new planets outside our solar system in constant motion, so the work of Selene makes us appreciate new worlds inside the motionless rock. Eternal.
